Kartner worked as a promoter and producer at the record label Dureco with Anne de Reuver, with whom he formed the duo X. He was a member of the Corey & Dee Reckels band, which sold over a million records in the 1960s.
In 1971, his duet with Wilma Landkroon, “Will It Be Bad, Dear Grandfather?”, reached number one in the Dutch pop music charts. In 1981, Cartner recorded a song about Weeples, “We Are the Whoppies”. In 2005, Vader Abraham collaborated with dance act Dynamite to record The Smurf Song.
In 2002 Cartner recorded “Wimmetje gaat, pimmetje komt” (Wim goes, Pim comes) with rising politician Pim Fortuyn, predicting that Fortuyn might replace Wim Koch as prime minister. Before this could happen, Fortuin was murdered. In 2012, he recorded “Best könning” (Dear King) and in 2016 “Ik vil mijn gulden terug” (I want the guilder back).
