Captured! Men Accused of Killing Beloved Shop Owner Brought Back to Miami in Shackles
After more than a year of heartbreak, frustration, and unanswered questions, the family of Salem Albakri, a beloved 35-year-old smoke shop owner, can finally begin to see justice take shape.
Two suspects, Devon Collymore and Moises Ramirez, have been extradited back to Miami-Dade County after being captured in South Dakota, hundreds of miles from the scene of the crime.
The Man Behind the Counter: Who Was Salem Albakri?
To those who knew him, Salem was far more than just the owner of Miami Cloudz, a North Miami Beach smoke shop. He was a father, a mentor to local youth, and someone who always had a smile for customers who came through his doors.
“Salem treated his shop like a community center,” said one longtime customer. “He’d give away things to people who couldn’t afford them. He never turned anyone away.”
But on June 11, 2024, that warmth and generosity were met with cold violence.
The Robbery That Turned Deadly
According to police, four young men — including Collymore, Ramirez, Tarvan Bowens Jr., and William Robinson — targeted Albakri’s shop that day. Surveillance footage reportedly captured them entering the store with the intent to rob it.
What happened next turned a robbery into a homicide.
During the confrontation, Albakri was shot and killed inside his own shop — a place where he had spent years building relationships and supporting his community.
Quick Arrests, but Two Vanished
Bowens Jr. and Robinson were arrested within days. But Collymore and Ramirez disappeared — vanishing without a trace — leaving authorities, and Albakri’s family, fearing they might never face justice.
“It was like they vanished into thin air,” a Miami-Dade detective told local media. “But we never stopped looking.”
The Break in the Case — 1,800 Miles Away
In early July 2025, U.S. Marshals received a tip. Moises Ramirez had been spotted in Yankton, South Dakota — a small city with no known connection to the suspects. Social media helped seal the case: Instagram posts reportedly placed Ramirez in the area.
Shortly after, Devon Collymore was captured in Sioux Falls, about 90 minutes away. Both men were taken into custody without incident and held while Florida officials secured their extradition.
Back to Miami — Facing a Courtroom, and a Family’s Grief
On July 17, 2025, both suspects were flown back to Miami-Dade and booked into jail — Collymore at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and Ramirez at a separate pretrial facility. They now face charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery.
They join Bowens and Robinson, already in custody, to face what prosecutors say is a mountain of evidence including:
-
Store surveillance footage
-
Cell phone location tracking
-
Witness testimony
-
Ballistics evidence
The case is expected to head to trial in early 2026.
A Family Still Healing
Salem’s family has remained largely private during the investigation, but on Thursday, a cousin briefly addressed reporters:
“It’s been a long year. A painful year. But we believe the system is finally catching up. Salem didn’t deserve this. He was a good man.”
This murder is part of a growing concern over violent robberies at small businesses in South Florida, especially those operated by immigrant entrepreneurs. Police say they are reviewing whether the suspects may be linked to any other crimes during their time on the run.
